Between Barra do Chuí and Praia do Cassino, along the vast Brazilian Atlantic coast, the Extremo Sul Ultramarathon emerges a challenge that redefines the limits of endurance.

The Extremo Sul is a 226 km non-stop crossing, following a linear route along what is considered the longest continuous beach in the world. It is a test of pure endurance, where the infinite horizon meets human determination to keep going.

The time limit is 52 hours, with the route entirely on sand and strategically placed support stations.

The race is run in self-sufficiency between the organization’s bases, exposing, year after year, the fragility of humans when facing the forces of Mother Nature. The alternation between soft and compact sand demands constant technical adaptation. Wind can be an ally or an adversary, the weather is unpredictable, and the tide affects pace. Every detail matters, and every step requires attention.

The continuous stretch of the course challenges both physical and psychological limits, demanding constant focus, strategy, and mental consistency. In a landscape that is at once deserted and paradisiacal — marked by shipwrecks, animal remains, and sudden climatic shifts — it becomes clear that the most powerful forces of nature prevail here.

For many hours, athletes move in solitude, often feeling like the only human presence between sky and sea, accompanied solely by the sound of wind and waves. In the deep darkness of an isolated beach, beneath a star-filled sky, the vastness of the universe becomes undeniable and invites reflection. It is a unique and transformative experience, defined by connection with nature and a profound sense of humility.
